Kuwait ready to invest in Serbia, visiting PM says

Marko Subotic in Belgrade - 26.11.2009

Visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Sabah said his country was ready to invest in Serbia, after signing four accords with the Balkan country on economic, technical, civil aviation and cultural cooperation.

Serbia's president, Boris Tadic, told a joint news conference that he saw major potential for re-establishment of military and economic cooperation between the two countries due to the agreements.

Tighter links could also signal a return to business in Kuwait for construction companies of the former Yugoslavia, which were active in building infrastructure for Arab states until the imposition of international sanctions on the Balkan country and war in the 1990s.

“Our relations and cooperation will not only be in diplomacy but also in finance, investments, culture and in all other fields. Also our private sector should invest in Serbia," Al-Sabah said.

Bilateral trade in January-September was only $500,000 and needed boosting, Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic added.
