BiH: RS police successful in fighting crime in 2010

Michael Roberts - 22.03.2010

According to the Republika Srpska Police statistics, 1,482 crime cases were committed in January-February 2010, which represents a 16,4 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. “In these two months, police solved 998 crime cases, or 67 percent of the total number of general crime,” said Tijana Savić, RS Police Spokesperson.

“In analyzing the statistics for these two months, the police have identified a decreasing trend in property related crimes, car thefts and robberies in comparison with 2009,” added Ms Savić. Of the crimes committed, more than half of the cases have been resolved.

The police however noted an increase in economic crime and unauthorized production, trafficking and consumption of drugs.

“The RS police filed 14 percent more economic crime reports with the prosecutor, identifying 25 percent more perpetrators than in 2009. Consequently, the number of reports related to drug abuse increased by a quarter, while the number of identified persons increased by 60 percent,” concluded Ms Savić.
