The U.S. Commercial Service of the American Embassy launched, the beginning of March , a “2010 Water and Energy Seminar” at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bucharest. Continuing its program of introducing American technology to Romania’s water and energy utilities, the half-day event featured telecommunications company Motorola which discussed the applications of its SCADA technology (supervisory control and data acquisition) for power utilities, water and wastewater plants, and other critical infrastructure.
“We have identified water and energy infrastructure as key sectors vital to the Romania’s development,” said Embassy Commercial Attaché Keith Kirkham in his opening remarks. “We are interested not just because of the business opportunities that exist, but because these sectors offer great potential for the exchange of technical expertise between Romania and the United States. Through the application of leading technology, such as SCADA systems, we can contribute substantially to improving the performance and productivity of water and energy utilities.”
The event drew a large audience made up of water and energy utilities’ senior management, as well as specialized consulting and construction companies across Romania who came to learn more about Motorola’s latest SCADA and Wireless Broadband Advance Solutions from experts in Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions, a division of Motorola.
Motorola has been operating in Romania for over 20 years, and has a successful track record of implementing advanced integrated and interoperability radio telecommunication solutions in both the government and public safety sectors.
Ron Landenberg, Motorola Vice-president declared that: “Our current strategy in Romania has as a top priority to promote some other Motorola’s advanced technologies, such as SCADA and Wireless Broadband that are well known worldwide. That it is why this seminar represents an important milestone in our promotional strategy dedicated to these technologies and their related technical and economical advantages for the energy and water sectors. Meanwhile, it will give us also the opportunity of better understanding the needs and requirements of our potential Romanian clients and other important players in these industries and how to best serve their needs.”
Motorola is known worldwide for innovation in communications and is focused on advancing how the world connects. From broadband communications infrastructure, enterprise mobility and public safety solutions to high-definition video and mobile devices, Motorola leads the next wave of innovations that will enable people, enterprises and governments to be more connected and more mobile. Motorola (NYSE: MOT) had sales of US $22 billion in 2009.
