Serbia says it's the largest arms exporter in SE Europe

Serbia has become the largest exporter of arms and military equipment in southeastern Europe, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said.

"In 2009, the Serbian military industry exported arms and equipment worth 300 million euros. I hope at the end of 2010 we can say that we earned a billion euros just by exporting military equipment," Sutanovac told International Radio Serbia in a recent interview.

"Besides the fact that we export arms and military equipment, the military industry also contributes to reducing the foreign trade deficit."

Thousands of jobs will be created in the future in specialized industry output including allied firms, the minister added.
