Cyprus ranks 40th in World Bank's 2010 Doing Business report

Lucie Robson in Nicosia - 18.11.2009

Cyprus ranked 40th out of 183 countries in the World Bank’s Doing Business report for 2010, in the island's debut appearance in the annual assessment.

Cyprus scored highest for the ease in cross-border trade (15th), while its lowest rating was in contract enforcement (107th), according to the report (www.worldbank.org).

FYR Macedonia (32nd) fared better than Cyprus, while business conditions were worse in Slovenia (53rd), Montenegro (71st), Serbia (88th), Croatia (103rd) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (116th).

The Doing Business report analyzes regulations that apply to an economy’s businesses during their life cycles, including start-up and operations, paying taxes and closing a business.
