According to the yield forecast as of 31 July 2013, producers in Slovenia are expected to harvest a tenth less maize for grain and a fifth less silage maize than in the previous year. The expected average yield of maize for grain (5.9 tons per hectare) is more than a fifth (by 21%) lower than the average of the past ten years, while the expected average yield of silage maize (30 tons per hectare) is 28% lower. Due to unfavourable weather conditions for growth of maize for grain and silage maize (high temperature, lack of water), an even lower output is expected than shown by the current data; for more precise information on maize output one has to wait until the data on the yield forecast as of 5 September 2013 are published on 24 October 2013.
The summer drought had a bad impact on the potato harvest. According to the yield forecast, this year's output is expected to be 13% lower than previously predicted. The expected average yield of 21 tons per hectare would be 7% lower than the average of the past ten years. Statistical Offiec of Slovenia
