After four consecutive months of decreasing, Slovenia's registered unemployment rate increased in July: it went up by 0.1 of a percentage point compared to June and stood at 12.9%. The movement of the unemployment rate was quite similar to the movement last year and the year before, as the trend of decreasing unemployment rate turned up in July. If the trend from the previous two years continues, we might expect relatively stable unemployment rates until October, when the unemployment rate went up in 2012 and 2011.
The gender analysis showed that the unemployment rate decreased for men (from 12.1% to 12.0%) and increased for women (from 13.5% to 13.8%). The unemployment for women thus returned to the level at the beginning of 2013, while the unemployment rate for men decreased by 1.4 percentage points since January.
The age group analysis showed that the unemployment rate decreased this month only in the age group 55-59 years (from 22.9% to 22.5%), while it went up or remained the same in all other age groups. It went up the most in the age group 25-29 years (from 16.8% to 17.4%).
Fewer persons employed on Slovenia
The first half of 2013 was characterized by the increasing number of persons in employment. In July 2013 the number decreased for the first time this year, from 796,461 to 794,359. The number declined because of fewer women in employment (by about 2,100). There were about 356,700 women in employment at the end of July. Compared to June the number of men in employment remained almost unchanged at 437,700.
The review by activity shows that in July 2013 the number of persons in employment declined significantly only in education (by about 1,000), which was mainly due to the end of the school year. 85% of this decrease was due to fewer women employed in education, who represent about 80% of all persons employed in this activity.
