A new Italian tax on pleasure vessels has caused many moneyed Italians to set sail for nearby Montenegro, where they can keep their assets afloat for less. Boka Group reports a 175% increase in enquiries regarding some of its flagship properties in Porto Montenegro from Italian investors who are now competing with the Brits and Russians who once dominated their list of interested parties. Yachts can be reregistered in other countries every easily, and experts say that the Italian coast has already relieved itself of some 20,000 vessels that have charted a course for more tax-friendly slips in Greece, Malta, Croatia and Spain.
