Construction of a high-speed rail line to connect Turkey's İstanbul and the capital Ankara via Eskişehir will likely miss its scheduled end date of Oct. 29, Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yıldırım said on Monday. Ankara was planning to open the line by the republic's 100-year anniversary on Oct. 29, the same day the country's first undersea railway tube -- the Marmaray project, to pass under the Bosporus straight -- is scheduled to open. Earlier reports speculated that the line would be delayed until year-end, citing an “unprecedented” problem with the infrastructure works. Contractor Cengiz İnşaat said that their tunnel boring machine was having trouble clearing the way for the line due to a “rough surface” at tunnel 26, between Eskişehir and İstanbul reports Today's Zaman.
