Serbia's Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said, after talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in Brussels that the round of dialogue did not bring great results, but noted that it is a step forward in the implementation of the Brussels agreement.
Dacic said that most of the discussion was devoted to the organisation of local elections in Kosovo, scheduled for 3 November, and highlighted Serbia's position that it in the interests of Kosovo Serbs to participate in the elections.
We now have a much clearer idea of the timetable for the conduct of elections, Dacic said, adding that it was agreed that the deadline for the submission of lists be extended in order to allow greater turnout of Serbs.
He pointed out that no agreement was reached on how the ballots will look, adding that this issue will be discussed in the coming days.
The Serbian Prime Minister stated that Belgrade and Pristina approached their positions when it comes to telecommunications and energy, adding that this is a complex issues where technical and political issues are intertwined with the issue of ownership.
Dacic pointed out that it is his intention to calm the atmosphere so as not to have the technical issues further politicised.
If the technical issues were discussed at the working group level, thez would not have gained political overtones, Dacic said.
Dacic said that he does not want to give the impression that the result of dialogue is a total victory for one side and a complete loss for another.
He said that in separate talks with Ashton too, they discussed the local elections in Kosovo-Metohija.
It is important that Kosovo Serbs to vote in these elections because they will then have completely legalized municipal authorities, mayors and the Commonwealth of Serbian municipalities, and no one will be able to talk about parallel and illegal structures, concluded the Prime Minister of Serbia.
