The registered unemployment rate in Slovenia has been decreasing in the spring months for the third consecutive year: from March to June 2011 it decreased from 12.2% to 11.4%, last year it went down from 12.0% to 11.5%, while this year it declined from 13.4% to 12.8%. In June 2013 the registered unemployment rate decreased for the fourth consecutive month; by 0.2 of a percentage points compared to the previous month and it stood at 12.8%.
The gender analysis showed that the unemployment rate decreased again more for men (from 12.4% to 12.1%) than for women (from 13.6% to 13.5%). Since February 2013 the unemployment rate for men has decreased by 1.4 percentage points, while for women it has fallen only modestly (by 0.2 of a percentage point).
Similarly as in May, the unemployment rate went down the most in the youngest age group 15-24 years (from 28.3% to 27.7%) and in the age group 55-59 years (from 23.6% to 22.9%).
As regards statistical regions, the unemployment rate went down the most again in Pomurska Slovenia. This month it decreased by 0.6 of a percentage point and it stood at 16.7% by the end of the month. Despite the decreasing rates, Pomurska remained the region with the highest unemployment rate although it closely approached the Zasavska statistical region, where the unemployment rate was 16.3%.
In June 2013 the number of persons in employment increased by around 1,000 in Slovenia and it stood at 796,461. The number of persons in employment increased by 7,750 in the first half of 2013. In the first half of 2012 the number of persons in employment went up by around 4,100. Anyway, there were about 19,200 more employed at that time than at the end of the first half of 2013; the number declined significantly in the autumn months of 2012.
