The EU warned Bosnia-Herzegovina that it could lose EUR7.5m of assistance for a population census if it does not fulfil certain conditions, Xinhua reported.
"We are increasingly concerned with delays by Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities in fulfilling the necessary pre-conditions to get this money. The census has already been postponed once and smooth action is required at all level of governments to ensure its implementation in Oct. 2013," said Andy McGuffie, spokesperson for the EU delegation to Bosnia.
It took local authorities over a month to indicate readiness to accept these additional funds, Bosnian news agency Fena quoted him as saying.
The EU pledged to provide the funds in addition to 4.5 million euros for technical assistance for the planned census.
To get the additional money, authorities would now need to develop and adopt a financial plan for the census, said McGuffie.
"If this is not done within a matter of days, Bosnia and Herzegovina runs a very real and serious risk of losing access to these funds," he warned.
