Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vucic stated in Berlin that Serbia expects two very important reports from the European Commission which will be released in June.
In a speech before the Committee on the Affairs of the EU of the German Bundestag, Vucic said that one report will deal with successes achieved in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, and the second with progress in meeting the criteria for EU membership.
He underlined that the goal of both reports is to convince the EU Council that Serbia deserves to start negotiations on EU accession in June this year and thanked members of the Bundestag for the invitation.
The First Deputy Prime Minister recalled that Serbia started the very difficult path towards the EU 13 years ago and that it not only had to launch painful economic reforms and renew its institutions, but it also had to deal with high political issues.
According to him, Serbia’s progress has been slow, leaving citizens of Serbia disappointed because they started to believe that EU membership is an issue of politics, and not of progress and better life.
Vucic underlined that this government of Serbia, in only seven months of mandate, achieved significant results in fulfilling the conditions and criteria for obtaining the date for EU accession.
Apart from Vucic, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Suzana Grubjesic will also address the EU committee of the Bundestag, reads a statement by the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister. Source: Government
