Serbia deserves to obtain the date for the beginning of negotiations

Balkans.com Business News Correspondent - 20.02.2013

Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister responsible for defence, security and the fight against corruption and crime and Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vucic stated today that during his visit to Germany he will inform German officials that Serbia, its government and citizens have deserved to obtain the date for the beginning of negotiations with the EU.

Speaking to Fonet news agency, Vucic expressed his hope that the Serbian delegation on visit to Germany, that will also include Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Suzana Grubjesic and Chairman of the Serbian Parliament’s Committee for European Integration Milica Delevic, will receive praises and demands.

He reiterated that obtaining the date would be of extreme importance for Serbia because then Serbia would be additionally open for European path and investments, not only from the EU, but from Asian countries as well.

Vucic underlined that he will tell German officials that Serbia will be very disappointed if it is not given the date.

In Berlin, Vucic will speak with Foreign Minister Guido Vesterwelle, Defence Minister Thomas de Maiziere and Foreign Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor Christoph Heusgen.

The Serbian delegation will also speak with members of the parliamentary committee that decides on giving Serbia the date for the start of negotiations, and with the most influential members of the ruling coalition.

Vucic said that he expects to get support from Germany for the reforms in Serbia related to judiciary, public procurement, the economy and Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Source; Government
