Serbia and Russia sign agricultural cooperation agreement

Serbia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Goran Knezevic and Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Nikolai Fedorov signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Knezevic told the Beta news agency that the signing of this document will improve the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and the Russian Federation, and will provide long-term fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture.
He explained that the memorandum provides for cooperation in science and technology, i.e., the transfer of knowledge and experience, and added that during the meeting with Fedorov they also discussed cooperation in the field of modernisation of agricultural complex.
The Serbian Minister pointed out that Russian investors are interested in investing in agriculture in Serbia, as well as sale of the Russian products on the Serbian market, especially of frozen fruits and vegetables and confectionery industry.
According to him, the trade cooperation between the two countries increased in previous years, but there are even more opportunities for exchange.
Volume of trade in agricultural products is approximately €220 million, explained the minister, adding that Serbia has a surplus as exports goods worth €150 million.
Knezevic said that it is not enough because the Russian market is big, and Serbia can sell more of its products in Russia and added that it is necessary to ensure product quality and continuity of supply of the market.
He is said that working groups on agriculture dealing with cooperation between Russia and Serbia in the field of agriculture have been set up. Source; Serbian Gov
