Turkey's total revenue from tourism for 2012, which was initially stated as $23.4 billion, has been revised upwards to $29.4 billion, Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) President Birol Aydemir announced on Thursday.
With the increase, the average spending by tourists in Turkey, which was estimated to be $637, is now $798. The institution also revised the 2012 tourism expenditures of Turks who traveled overseas to $4.6 billion, up from $4.1 billion, with the average expenditure of Turks amounting to $792 reports Today's Zaman
Noting that the revisions were made in accordance with the new methodologies implemented by Eurostat and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Aydemir said, “Within the scope of the new regulations, international transportation spending, visitors' expenditures at marinas and marina service fees as well as money spent on GSM roaming services were added to the calculations.”
