Romania gets EUR6bn more in next EU budget

bne - 11.02.2013

Romania's President Traian Basescu said that for the next budget, 2014-2020, Romania had six million euros more compared with the previous budget and that our country was a beneficiary of European funds worth 31 billion euros, Agerpres reports.
Traian Basescu thanked to the European states such as Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, Holland, Austria, Luxembourg, because thanks to them Romania received a significant budget.
'There are states thanks to which we can receive a significant budget for our own development, so that we can reduce the gaps in front of the developed states. I want it to be very clear, this money comes from the fees and taxes of the citizens of Germany, France, UK, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Luxembourg and others. You should know that the EU or the European Commission do not print this money,' Basescu pointed out.
The President explained that the EU functioned on the principle of solidarity and that the citizens in the contributing countries were solidary with Romania's interests.
He also confessed that he faced 'enormous difficulties' in convincing that Romania could spend two billion euros more than it had earmarked in the current budget exercise, due to the very low absorption level that the country had after five years since the beginning of the current budget exercise.
