Serbian Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic attended in Kragujevac the opening of two factories of US Johnson Controls, which produces seat components for car interiors for the company Fiat Automobiles Serbia (FAS).
Dinkic said on the occasion that together with Microsoft, this company is one of the two largest US investors in Serbia. 
Johnson Controls in 2012 recorded a $43 billion turnover, which is equal to the gross domestic product of Serbia, he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the investment of this American company in Kragujevac because it is an investment in the auto industry, which is the main driver of industrial development in Serbia, and will ensure employment and growth in exports.
The Minister said that Fiat suppliers in Serbia employ 1,200 workers, while the whole Serbian auto industry engages a total of 4,000 workers.
Dinkic expressed his expectation that the annual export value of FAS will be €1 billion, or one-fifth of the Serbian total exports.
According to him, the first signs of economic recovery in Serbia were visible in December last year, when the industrial production index increased primarily thanks to auto industry, whose production was 3.5 times higher against the previous year.
The Serbian government is working on attracting investment, and there is a great interest in the auto industry, especially in companies from Hong Kong and Germany.
US Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby said that the arrival of Johnson Controls comes as a result of the Serbian government’s efforts to encourage investment.
He said that Serbia is a country which has trained staff with quality work results and confirmed that new US investments are to come.
