According to local daily Milliyet, Minister of Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun said that there are currently 12mn non-energy efficient air conditioners in Turkey consuming 30% of the electricity produced by the Ataturk dam, the country's largest dam. In order to conserve energy, the government is planning to replace those air conditioners with energy-efficient equivalents by 2016.
The news could be perceived as positive for listed companies like Arcelik, Vestel, Klimasan and Bosch as this could trigger replacement demand and higher volumes for the companies.
