Romania's National Institute of Statistics has published a summary of the results of the January business survey of enterprise managers in industry and construction, in which results for industry were moderately encouraging, though construction activity is set to contract in the coming months, IHS Global Insight reports.

Responses from industrial managers, both unadjusted and corrected for seasonal factors, suggest that both industrial activity and new orders are picking up steam. In contrast, the construction sector enterprises expect the level of their activity to decline further and the pace of new orders for construction work to slow. Inventories of finished industrial goods are seen to continue to decline with a net response of -11%, while the comparable indicator for construction indicates no change. Reductions in the workforce are anticipated in both sectors, however, with a balance of the share of optimistic over pessimistic responses to this question of -28% in industry and -67% in construction.
