Montenegro and Azerbaijan continue to strenghten economic cooperation

Balkans.com Business News Correspondent - 21.01.2013

The relations between Montenegro and Azerbaijan have seen remarkable progress in a short period of time, confirming the two countries’ willingness to continue to deepen mutual cooperation, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and Ambassador of Azerbaijan Eldar Hasanov pointed out at a meeting on Friday.

In that regard, they stressed the significance of boosting economic ties demonstrated by the ongoing joint projects and investments, as well as announced projects in the area of port economy and transport infrastructure in Montenegro. It was agreed to speed up the activities related to the long-term lease of the “Orijen Battalion” barracks in Kumbor, Montenegro, for a period of 90 years by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). PM Đukanović reiterated the Government’s readiness and openness to work hard on strengthening the two countries’ partnership, in particular the economic one. He also emphasised the importance of Azerbaijan’s donation worth EUR 2 million for the reconstruction and expansion of the kindergarten in the municipality of Bijelo Polje.
