Romania’s adjusted retail sales increased by 2 percent this November compared to the previous month and 3 percent y-o-y, according to data by the National Institute of Statistics. This excludes cars and motorcycle sales. Overall, in the first 11 months of 2012, retail sales were up by 3.8 percent (adjusted series) y-o-y.
The increase in November compared to the previous months was mainly generated by higher fuel sales (+3.5 percent), food products, drinks and tobacco (+2 percent) and non-food products (+1.9 percent). Compared to the previous year, in November 2012 Romanians spent more on food products, drinks and tobacco (+4.6 percent), non-food products (+2.7 percent) and fuels (+1.8 percent). Overall, the 3 percent hike in the first 11 months of 2011 was mainly generated by higher sales with food products, drinks and tobacco (+4.7 percent), fuels (+3.4 percent) and on-food products (+2.3 percent).
