As regards the statements of Constitutional law Professor Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, requesting Prime Minister Victor Ponta to adopt urgently the ordinance allowing local authorities not to index by 16 percent local taxes, Press Office of the Government is authorized to make the following clarifications:

On the Government meeting from January 4, 2013, there was prepared the text of Ordinance amending the Tax Code on local taxes. But the ordinance could not be passed because President Traian Basescu did not promulgate the law empowering the Government to issue ordinances during the recess until after unfolding Government meeting. Furthermore, the Law empowering the Government to issue ordinances during the recess enters into force three days after its publication in the Official Gazette. For this reason, the Ordinance amending the Tax Code on local taxes will be adopted on the Government meeting this week.
