The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is considering arranging a syndicated loan of up to EUR 65m for Crnogorski Elektroprenosni Sistem to upgrade Montenegro's power network, newswires reported, citing an EBRD press release. The money would also go to creating electricity transmission infrastructure that would link Montenegro and Italy. The proposed project includes the construction of a new substation at Lastva on the Adriatic coast, the diversion and strengthening of the existing network around Lastva, and the construction of a new line from Lastva to Pljevlja in northern Montenegro. The project is linked to the planned construction of an undersea cable from Italy to Montenegro.
The EBRD Board will decide on the granting of loan to the CGES on 25 April.
